What is Ear Candling?
Ear Candling is a natural way to clean out accumulated wax and white, flaky fungus from the ears. The accumulations withdrawn from your ears may be many months or even years old. Ear Candles are custom designed from natural fibers and tapered to precise specifications. Some ear candling advocates claim the procedure will cleanse the ear canal, improve hearing, relieve ear aches and relieve sinus pressure. A few ear candling practitioners go so far as to claim the method may clear the eyes, fortify the central nervous system, release blocked energy and help stabilize emotions.
Does Ear Candling hurt?
Absolutely not! It is a painless, harmless and totally relaxing experience. If it weren’t for the intermittent crackling and hissing sounds — due to the burning of the wax and fungus being drawn up the chimney of the candle — you would never know that anything was happening in your ear.
How long does an Ear Candling session last?
About thirty-five (35) minutes per session, however, you should allow one (1) hour for your appointment.
Common ear wax build-up muffles hearing for many. Yeast’s, allergies or just wax build-up, removed from the ear canal regularly will restore hearing, relieve tension or pressure in the ear and sometimes relieve other symptoms not consciously connected with the ear condition before the process. Removal of excessive wax allows better hearing, usually immediately.
Candida can cause a mold/yeast allergy which in turn causes itching inside the ear. Parasites can cause many problems if allowed to grow in the ear. “Swimmers Ear” is quite often caused by growth of bacteria etc. in the ear plus ear wax which stops the clearing of water from the ear. Some have also removed fleas from ears.
The moist warm dark conditions in the ear cause fast growth of many organisms. If excess ear wax blocks the ear it can cause pressure build-up from various organisms.
A small, soft towel is placed around the person’s ear while he lies on his side. The person performing the procedure gently places the narrow cone end of the candle into the entrance of the ear canal. The tube-shaped candles are made from unbleached cotton cloth soaked in beeswax. The candle is lit and through a process called convection, softer ear waxes will be drawn into the base of the candle. Ear candlers believe the softer waxes may contain trapped pollen, airborne dust and dirt, and even ear mites or small insects. When excess wax is removed, the trapped impurities go with it.
Touted as a natural therapy, ear candling was practiced by the ancient Egyptians and Chinese. In centuries past, however, the practice most often was reserved for royalty and renowned warriors. Today, ear candling is practiced by such groups as the Amish and other believers in home remedies and natural healing methods.
In Germany they teach ear candling as a remedy. In the U.S. this is a relatively new process to the general public. In many cultures ear candling is the remedy of choice for ear infections, Candida, fungus growth, ear aches, etc. Some holistic doctors in the U.S. have shifted over to ear candling from irrigation techniques.
The way it works:
The spiral of the cone causes the smoke to be pulled down in to the ear canal. This causes the ear canal to warm up and loosen the wax and any other material. As it heats it up, the candle causes a suction by creating a vacuum in the ear canal. Air is drawn up from the Eustachian tube into the inner ear then through the porous membrane out into the outer ear. The heat and the vacuum draw out the wax and other materials from the ear canal into the base of the candle. As it burns down you will hear a lot of cracking and hissing which is the process of removing the wax etc. The warmth feels soothing and relaxing during the process. Ear Oil placed in the ear after candling with cotton to cover will protect from further infections from bacteria, yeast’s etc.
